I got back to America 4 weeks ago. I was back home in Japan for about 5 weeks, and spent the bulk of my time in Tohoku. The trip was everything I wanted it to be, but the minute I left Japan that sinking feeling returned to my chest. America may be where I was born, but it sure as hell isn't home.... It's also terrible being away from my best friend/girlfriend.
When I cam back to America, the jet-lag lasted about a week, so every morning I got up at 2am and went to watch the sun come up over Lake Michigan. It was beautiful every day however I couldn't stop telling myself , "The one over Sakurajima is more beautiful... This sure as hell doesn't beat Aomori's either.". It's the same sun, but less beautiful for being in a different place.
Alright... Excuse all this pessimistic crap. I wanted to actually talk today about some of the goals and things I want to do as of now.
I start classes up again from next January, and plan on finishing my degree in Business. When I graduate my girlfriend and I are getting married and I'm going back to Japan for good. Until then, I'll keep working my 4 jobs and saving as much cash as possible. I'll be in Cambodia for 2 months later this year, but aside from that there aren't any travel plans until next Summer (Kagoshima or Tohoku).
When I get back to Japan I plan on starting my own photography business, so I'm trying to get a real solid hold on my business sense now. Right now I do childrens portraiture, which is good practice for doing things like 'Seijinshiki' and 'Shichigosan' back in Japan.
On top of that, I want to get better at using this website. I also want to move into Youtube. I think I could use the platform pretty well to talk about photography, etc.
Finally, for my personal projects, I decided I want to take photos of Chicagoans. Chicago isn't the most beautiful city in the world but the people are colourful as hell, so I think it'd be a good long term project.
... That's about it! I'll be using the blog more from here on out, so definitely check back often! Thanks!
